In this support article, you'll discover how to keep your Metal Blockchain account safe within the Metal Wallet.
Metal Blockchain offers Web Authentication for all transaction signing on the Metal EVM (A, C, P, X Chains). This means you don't need to download any wallet software, as it uses the secure element (SE) of your device, turning your phone into a hardware wallet. By using Web Authentication, Metal provides a safer alternative to extension wallets, incorporating a more secure and convenient framework (Face/Touch/Yubi for signing) that aligns with the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) recommendations.
As a new industry standard for device authentication, identity management, payment processing, and cryptocurrency transactions for Web 3.0, Metal Wallet is also a non-custodial cryptocurrency wallet. This means your private keys are stored locally on your device. Because of this non-custodial approach, it's really important to keep your Metal Wallet account secure.
⚠️ Please remember that Metallicus staff will never ask for your Private Key. Sharing your Private Key could allow someone else to access all of your funds, and we won't be able to recover any lost funds.
We highly recommend writing down your private key and storing it in a safe place. Here are some secure ways to back up your private key:
- Secure offline storage, like a physical notebook or an encrypted USB Memory Stick (keep it in a safe spot)
- An air-gapped device, such as a hardware wallet (this is a great option)
- A Password Manager with 2FA and encryption
⚠️ Please note that Metallicus staff cannot access or recover your Private Key. If you don’t write it down, you won’t be able to regain access to your Metal Wallet account, and your funds will be permanently lost.
